ROOT CANAL TREATMENT
Root Canal Treatment

Root canal treatment is a dental procedure that extracts infected pulp tissue from a tooth. The pulp of a tooth is an area in the center of the tooth that contains nerves and blood vessels. The pulp tissue, which is the innermost layer of the tooth, can become infected and inflamed due to severe tooth decay, repeated dental procedures, excessive biting forces, dental fractures, or trauma to the tooth. Root canal treatment is a dental treatment performed when the pulp of the tooth becomes infected or inflamed. A root canal treatment removes the infection and prevents further problems.

What to Expect

The tooth is examined to determine the level of damage to the nerves and gum tissue. The tooth is then numbed, and an opening is made into the tooth. The pulp (nerve and blood supply) is removed from the tooth. The clean tooth is refilled with a rubber-like material called gutta-percha. The tooth is sealed with permanent cement. To strengthen the tooth, a dental crown is placed on top of the treated tooth.
